Laguna Blanca is a country club community on Ruta 10 at about km 163, in the Montoya area between La Barra and Manantiales. It is billed as Uruguay's first gated community: Argentine developer Santiago Obarrio created it in 1993, and the first lots were handed over in 1998.
It covers 42 hectares of pine woodland more than a century old, with 180 lots averaging about 1,500 m². To the north it has some 500 metres of shoreline on the lagoon it is named after, with a pier and gazebo; to the south it is bounded by Ruta 10, and the beach is about 200 metres away across the road. Some lots have sea views.
Social life centres on the club house: adults' and children's pools overlooking the lagoon, six tennis courts, padel, volleyball, a games room and a sun deck. The perimeter is fenced and the gate is staffed 24 hours a day.
It is a mature community with little on the market: in 2026 the portals show a single interior lot of 2,345 m² at U$D 800,000. One listing puts common charges at about U$D 11,000 a year, plus a club membership fee of about U$D 2,600. Many houses are rented out for the season.
It suits those who want a house in the woods a short walk from the sea, in a community with history and an active club, close to La Barra and José Ignacio.
