About
La Serena Golf is a gated golf community at Playa Serena, between La Paloma, Laguna de Rocha and the Atlantic. It was created in 2010 by Desur, the company behind Tajamares de La Pedrera. Access is from Route 10 or from Avenida del Navío in La Paloma via a 1 km access road. The project brochure gives 105 km to Punta del Este and 28 km to the city of Rocha.
It covers 91 hectares with 180 lots of 2,000 to 3,000 m², and 55% of the land is common space. The plan includes a 9-hole golf course, a tennis court, a club house, seven bodies of water (lagoons and ponds), horse-riding trails, 7 km of internal roads and underground power lines. Water comes from individual wells. There is a rural wire perimeter fence, security and a resident caretaker; the golf club plans memberships for people from outside the development.
The lots sit on high ground with sea views. According to the development's profile it is about 400 metres from the sea; the brochure mentions 1,000 metres to the beach at Laguna de Rocha, a national park since 1977.
In 2022 El País found seven houses built, 120 of the 180 lots sold and lot prices of U$D 40,000 to 70,000; the golf course was still under construction. In 2026 agents offered lots of about 2,000 m² with sea and golf views for U$D 53,000–60,000 cash or in 48 monthly instalments. It is an affordable alternative to the Maldonado communities for buyers who want a large lot near La Paloma. Very few people live there year-round.
