El Faro (Carmelo)

El Faro is a private community run as a country club in the Colonia Estrella area, about 7–8 km from the town of Carmelo (Colonia), next to the Zagarzazú beach resort and roughly 1 km from Carmelo international airport. Its neighbours are Carmelo Golf and the Carmelo Resort & Spa, right on the local wine route. The 2023 census lists it as a locality of its own, "El Faro", with 14 permanent residents.

The development covers about 50 hectares planted with several species of pine, with white-sand beaches on the Río de la Plata and a harbour set in a small bay where owners moor their boats. According to estate agents it has a club house with a pool, a sports centre, a restaurant overlooking the harbour, a brewery, an ice-cream parlour and a bakery, plus well-kept internal roads and underground power lines.

Listed plots range from about 2,260 to 6,450 m². In 2025–2026 plots of 2,260–4,410 m² were offered at U$D 65,000–80,000, while a 6,452 m² corner plot was listed at U$D 270,000 in 2021. There are both year-round and holiday homes, some available to rent. Access is controlled, with private 24-hour security; no public information on monthly fees or building rules was found.

With its harbour and the nearby airport, El Faro mainly attracts Argentine owners: Buenos Aires' northern suburbs are an hour and a half away by boat. It suits buyers looking for a weekend or holiday home with direct access to the river and boating.
