Carmelo Golf

Carmelo Golf is a private residential community run as a country club in Carmelo, Colonia department, where the Río de la Plata begins. It covers 270 landscaped hectares of rolling ravines, large lagoons and vineyards on Ruta 21, about 4 km from the town centre. It grew up around the golf course of the former Four Seasons Carmelo hotel, now the Carmelo Resort & Spa (Hyatt), and is surrounded by the wineries of the Colonia Estrella wine route.

The 18-hole course, designed by Randy Thompson and Kelly Moran (American Golf Design), opened in 2000 and since late 2010 has been the home of Carmelo Golf Club, hosting PGA Uruguay events. The club also offers a driving range, putting green and mini-golf, an international-standard polo field (Carmelo Polo Club), a grass tennis court, a pool with a children's area, a gym, a football pitch, a playground, trails for riding, hiking and cycling, and lagoons for fishing and non-motorised water sports. A private sandy river beach with a service area operates in summer. The 700 m² club house has a restaurant with terraces over the course.

According to listings the masterplan has around 220 lots; those advertised range from roughly 1,700 to 4,700 m², facing the golf course, the polo field, the lagoons (some with a private jetty) or the woods. Asking prices in 2024–2026 vary widely, from about U$D 16,600 for a 2,346 m² lot to U$D 240,000 for a 4,300 m² lagoon-front lot. Drinking water comes from an on-site borehole, power lines are underground and there is 24-hour security. No public data on monthly fees or building regulations was found.

The 2023 census recorded the locality "Carmelo Golf" with 28 residents, pointing to mostly weekend and holiday use, largely by Argentine buyers: Buenos Aires is about two hours away by boat or 20–30 minutes by private plane to Zagarzazú airport. It suits golfers and families looking for nature, sport and country living by the river.
