Pilar de los Horneros is a gated community of turnkey houses on Camino de los Horneros (Canelones), next to Mall de los Horneros and less than 3 km from the Interbalnearia highway. It was developed by Balsa & Asociados, which launched it in 2020 as Uruguay's first self-sustaining private neighbourhood; construction began that year and the first stage closed in April 2023 with 40 houses handed over.
Plots are not sold on their own, only finished houses: traditionally built two-storey homes of about 130 m² with three bedrooms (one en suite), a study in some models, a covered barbecue with grill and wood oven, a pool, a vegetable garden and parking for two cars, on plots of roughly 330–400 m². The community is laid out in four blocks with internal streets, ponds and green space.
Houses have solar panels under a UTE micro-generation contract, heat-pump underfloor heating and low-flow fittings. The project earned preliminary EDGE Advanced certification (the World Bank's green-building programme), with estimated savings of 48% in energy and 31% in water.
There is private security, access control and CCTV. Common charges of about UYU 12,000–15,000 a month, depending on the source, cover upkeep of common areas, gardening and lawn-mowing for each house, pool cleaning, waste collection and an on-demand van. There are fire pits and play areas.
In 2023–2024 houses were offered from about U$D 365,000; in 2026 resales were listed at about U$D 395,000–400,000. In 2024 Balsa & Asociados filed for creditor protection; resale listings state whether a house is affected.
